Aubrey Williams

Aubrey Leon Williams, a man of wisdom, strength, and laughter, passed away, leaving behind a legacy of resilience and love. Born in Magnolia, Mississippi, to Ellen and Alphonse Williams, Aubrey was the eldest of ten children. He was preceded in death by his beloved siblings Lucille Williams, John Ella Williams, Shirley Williams, Dinnie Williams, Phyllis Williams, Joe Ann Williams, and Lee Thead Williams. He is survived by his sole remaining sibling, Ernestine Williams. Seeking new opportunities, Aubrey migrated to Chicago, where he lived a colorful and adventurous life, working various jobs and forging unforgettable connections. Later, he moved to Tennessee, where he met the love of his life, Ms. Ruthie Williams, who has also preceded him in passing. Their love was a beacon of joy in his life. He cherished visits from his sister John Ella and Joe Ann, relishing their time together and the long, heartfelt conversations over the phone. A true traditionalist at heart, Aubrey held firm to his old-fashioned values. On one memorable occasion, when his sister Joe Ann visited with her boyfriend at the time, Aubrey stood by his principles and insisted they sleep in separate rooms, as they were not married. His commitment to his beliefs was unwavering, yet it was always paired with an undercurrent of care and respect. Aubrey had an infectious spirit. He loved to laugh and, more importantly, to make others laugh and smile. Though he didn’t attend Ivy League schools, his wisdom was undeniable, his intelligence was sharp and he was never one to be fooled. His presence was felt, his words carried weight, and his heart was full of kindness. Aubrey was also known for his love of firearms, which was as big as his sense of humor. He had an uncanny way of making "threatening to shoot you" seem like a term of endearment. Friends and family recall that his playful warnings of "I'll get my gun" was a source of endless anecdotes and not-so-subtle reminders that he "meant business." His family and friends will forever cherish his humor, his stories, and his unwavering strength. As we honor his memory, we celebrate a life lived fully, authentically and with an ever-present twinkle in his eye. He leaves to celebrate his life of his son Andre Williams, his sister Ernestine Williams, his niece Haadiyah Muhammad, and nephews Jahlik Williams and Shaheed Williams. Beyond them, Aubrey’s legacy extends to a multitude of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great- nephews, and friends that he held dearly, each touched by his genuine warmth and unwavering love. His impact on their lives endures as a testament to his character, inspiring them to carry forward his values, his humor, and his infectious zest for life.
