David L. Smith

On January 27, 1948, a handsome baby boy named David Lee Smith was born to Jerry and Rosie Lee Smith. He was affectionately called "Baby Lee," which started because of his older brother Leo, who couldn't pronounce David Lee. David confessed a strong belief in our Lord and Savior as a young child. He received a formal education at Geeter High School and later joined the United States Army, where he received an honorable discharge. David had a love for many things, with carpentry being his main focus. He worked alongside his father and brothers on many job sites and was part of an organization called the O.I.C. David had many hobbies and passions, such as fishing, gardening, hunting, and horses. He had an extreme love for his horse Austin, and two dogs Bailey and Rusty. David "Baby Lee" Smith departed this life at home on Friday morning, October 20, 2023. He is preceded in death by his father, Jerry Smith, and mother, Rosie Lee Smith; three brothers, Leo Smith Sr., Jerry Smith Jr., and Oliver Smith; two sisters, Gloria Smith-Towns and Betty Smith-Jennings; and a grandson, Elijah L. Alexander. David leaves to cherish his memory; six children: Melanie Smith, Audrey Smith, David Smith, Jr., of Los Angeles, CA, Derek Smith of Arizona, Sharon Smith-Buckner of Memphis, TN, and Tina Smith of Georgia; two sisters: Barbara Smith-Williams and Carolyn Smith(Aaron); one brother: Arthur Smith Sr., all of Memphis, TN; twenty-two grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, and a special longtime companion Doris Jean Smith. He also leaves a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives, and friends. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. Revelation 21:4 The Smith family gratefully acknowledges your visits, prayers, and condolences in our hour of bereavement. We appreciate everything you have done in our time of sorrow.
