Doris Elmore

I, Doris Maxwell-Elmore, was brought into this world on June 27, 1953, the loving daughter of John Henry Maxwell and Alice Kearney Maxwell, who were the love of my life. John and Alice preceded me in going to be with the Lord. I married young in my marriage to (Billy Ray Williamson) and we were blessed with the birth of a son, Vonrico Williamson, whom I would always say, “We grew up together.” I later married William Elmore, Jr., and we were blessed with the birth of a daughter, Ashunti Elmore, who I would say, “God gave her to ME with a purpose for later.” Both of my husbands preceded me in death. Both of my children have loved me, taken care of me physically, mentally, financially, and spiritually. I thank God for helping me to raise my children to be loving, responsible, and above all, Christians. I was blessed with a grandson, Jamarius Williamson, who loved his “Granny” to the moon and back. He grew up and was a big help to me and made sure that I had what I needed when I needed it and chauffeured me when he started driving and sought my thoughts and advice for his future. I graduated from what is now known as the historical “Booker T. Washington High School”. I graduated from Draughon’s Business College with an Associates Degree. I was employed by the IRS, Universal Insurance Company, and FEDEX where I retired from after 34 years of employment. But let me tell you, I really enjoyed my retirement. I loved to travel, and did I ever travel with my crew, my girls, my besties! We cruised, we went to Rome, Croatia, Venice, Spain, Jamaica, Barbados, Aruba, I could go on and on about the places we traveled. Just to name a few of my girls, Shug, Verna, Loyce, Dr. Nubian, Valerie and Laura. During my retirement and to keep busy, I started working at my friend’s school, Christ Trinity Christian Academy, which she has four locations, and I worked at all of them. I loved the kids, and I could tell they loved me. I had many stories about my experience with the kids that I loved to share with my friends. I enjoyed the teachers, directors, and my friend, Michelle, owner of the schools, who knew she could call me to work when she needed me. I was there over 5 years. My siblings who have transitioned on to glory are John Maxwell Jr., Sammy Maxwell, James Earl Maxwell, and Joyce Marie Maxwell. I have left, to mourn my homegoing, my baby sister, Patricia Ann Maxwell. My nieces and nephews that I love dearly and pray for them daily: Tara Maxwell, Tracy Maxwell, Stephanie Maxwell, Omarrel Maxwell, John-John Maxwell, Ziggy Maxwell, Courtney Miller, Shelby Maxwell, Quintricia Maxwell, Ingrid Williams, Jacqueline Warden, Julian King, and many other nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. I was fortunate enough to have two stepchildren, Therese Elmore and Amari Elmore. I love you guys! Please look after your baby sister, Ashunti. I give my love to the Maxwell-Mitchum family group, which consists of all my cousins and loved ones. Please keep this group together and continue to travel, sing, and pray with each other. To the Williamson and Elmore family, thanks for keeping me in your family; even after divorce, you never divorced me! I had my health issues, but God truly brought me through! I went through two bouts of breast cancer and was in full remission! The day I rang that bell at the West Cancer Clinic, in the presence of my friends and family, was one of the best days of my life! I thank God for His healing power! I won’t dwell on the health issues because God truly blessed me, and my Spirit was never broken. I want to thank the Voices of St. Augustine for their love and support. I love each and every member of my choir and the ministry of music we provided to our Parish and outside our Parish wherever we were asked to come. I love my Church and all of the Priests who were assigned to us during the many years I was a member. I especially want to thank Fr. Francis Chiawa for always being there whenever I needed him and supporting me in many ways. Well, I didn’t mean to write my life story but just wanted to share a portion of me with you! So, “For Every Mountain” that I climbed, I asked God to “Order My Steps” as I give him “Perfect Praise” for the “Joy” I have in my heart! My beloved children, please stay close and supportive of each other and keep me in your hearts and minds always. I love you guys dearly!! To God Be The Glory for all that He has done!!! Doris Since the timing of this writing, our lovely mother was blessed with a bonus daughter, Idella, when Vonrico joined her in Holy Matrimony. From this union, she was blessed with a granddaughter, Trinity, whom she loved dearly and was her “little helper.”
