Janice Lynn Johnson

On December 13, 1960, God graced T.L. and Velma Johnson with the birth of their second child whom they named, Janice Lynn Johnson. She was the second of five children born to this union. Janice accepted Christ at an early age at the neighborhood church Lakeview Missionary Baptist Church. Later in life, she joined New Shiloh Christian Church under the leadership of Pastor Donald L. Smith. Janice was a graduate of Whitehaven High School, Class of 1978. Janice was an excellent cook! Her cooking skills started at home and the experience of working at several famous restaurants and adding her own personal touch would make her dishes so delicious. The family always requested and was granted her famous potato salad, devil eggs and coleslaw at our family gatherings. She would get so tickled at watching everyone fight over it. Janice decided to change careers with the help of her great aunt, Lucy Mae Jackson, and went into the dry cleaning and laundry business as a presser. She worked at several cleaning businesses throughout the Memphis and Mississippi area such as Fashion Cleaners, General Cleaners, Tom Cobb Cleaners, Bunny Cleaners, Nina's Cleaners and P&P Cleaners. Hobbies: Janice enjoyed/loved her family and called us several times a day. She also loved dancing, fishing, shopping and having a pet (dog) "Midnight". We often called Janice, "Jack of all Trades". She could fix anything with a screwdriver. If the refrigerator stopped running, Momma would say, “Go get Janice.” If the radio stopped playing, Momma would say, “Go get Janice.” If the washing machine stopped working, Momma would say, “Go get Janice.” She would put her confidence and determination together to get things going again. Janice and Daddy had a close relationship like no other. Living together, they got on each other's nerves, but they took very good care of each other and worried very much if one or the other was not feeling well. Janice leaves to cherish her memories: her father, Mr. T.L. Johnson; two sisters, Cynthia Webb (Patrick) and Lillian Jean Saulsberry (Vincent); two brothers, Terrell Johnson (Sharon) and Thaddeus Andre Johnson (Schanaque), all of Memphis, Tennessee; six immediate nieces, Charlysica, Tierra, Keitha, Tyneisha, Asia, and Amaya; seven immediate nephews, Omar, Vincent, Jr. Terrence, Terrell, II, Desmond, Thaddeus, Jr. Taddarius and Mario, as well as a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, neighbors and friends. Her mother, Mrs. Velma Jean Johnson preceded her in death.
