Redia Green

Redia Green was born in Memphis, Tennessee, on October 26, 1958: to the late Ora B. Green and Charles Edward Green. Redia accepted Christ, as her personal Savior, at an early age. She joined Middle Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late Dr. Lester Basken. Redia was a graduate of Whitehaven High School Class of 1976. After high school, she attended Miller-Hawkins Business College. She was employed with the Tennessee Department of Workforce and Development in the early nineties, as a Job Placement Counselor. Her people skills and knowledge of knowing the needs of her community allowed her to successfully utilize the system by increasing the state of Tennessee’s job placement percentages throughout her tenure with the Workforce and Development. She would personally help each job seeker fill out applications to increase their chances for job placement. She also provided coaching and interview training skills to job seeking applicants. She worked at FedEx part time, as a Data Entry Clerk. Her typing and keystroke skills were admirable. Redia also was a surveyor and participated in the Census Bureau Survey. She walked from door to door, to survey residents. She wanted to make sure her community was accounted for and received the appropriate government funding for her neighborhood. Redia made sure her neighborhood was not underserved. She was ambitious, very business oriented, and could accomplish anything she set her mind to achieve in life. God saw a bigger need for Redia’s passion and placed it on her heart to resign from the workforce full-time. She became a caretaker for her mother, until God called her mother home. This phenomenal woman was passionate about helping others; she never met a stranger. She wore many titles, such as: daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, auntie, and friend. She had a huge heart of pure gold. She truly enjoyed nurturing and helping others in need, especially the youth Redia was well known and loved in the Tulane Community, as well as the Whitehaven Community. She was always willing to help anyone in need, whether she was using her transportation to take people to appointments or packing up food and supplies from the house to give to a family member or stranger in need. One of Redia’s many hobbies was her love for cooking and feeding her family, friends, and any one in need. Again, Redia’s heart was made of pure gold. Redia is truly loved and will be missed. God said, “well done phenomenal woman”, and then she departed this life on Monday, March 11, 2024. Redia was proceeded in death by one sister, Nancy M. Green; father, Charles E. Green; mother, Ora B. Green; one brother, Ivory Lee Jones; one grandson, Antejuan M. Johnson. Redia leaves sweet memories to be cherished, by her three children, whom she loved dearly. Two sons Antonio M. Johnson, Sr.; Marrio D. Green, Sr.; and her only daughter, Katina M. Martin (Troy). She also leaves behind brothers, Charles E. Green, Melvin Green, Samuel E. Green (Brenda), sisters, Bernadine Green, Janice F. Ard (Sylvester), and Brenda A. Green. One granddaughter: Morgan K. Green. Five grandsons: Marrio D. Green, Jr., LaKendrick “KJ” Johnson, Antonio Montanaa Marquette Johnson Jr. (sister-Markevya Newson), Troy “TJ” Martin, Jr., and Trent D. Martin. Redia also leaves sweet memories to be cherished by her brothers; Sydney Green (Denise), John Green; sisters, Gwendolyn Green, Charlesetta Green (Roosevelt), Kim Green and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends to cherish her memory.
