Shirley J. Norris

On 12 November 1952 in Jackson MS, the second of six children to Juanita and Roosevelt Norris - Shirley Jean Norris was born and on 13 March 2024, God decided that Shirley had finished her course, so He came and took her home to be with Him. Shirley was still very young when her mother passed away, and was briefly cared for by her mother's sister, Roberta Jones and her Uncle Chick, until her beloved stepmother Wydena Norris joined the family in February of 1968. Shirley accepted Christ at an early age under the leadership of Rev. Briscoe of Second Pentecostal MB Church of Chicago IL. Shirley was reared in the Illinois school systems and graduated from Marshall High School in Chicago IL. Later in life Shirley relocated to Memphis TN, where she joined Shady Grove MB Church in Memphis, TN, under the leadership of Dr. Kent Hall. In Tennessee she also attained her CDL and drove school buses for the Shelby County School District. When she could no longer work in that field, she became a cook. She cooked for several major restaurants and hotel chains until her health began to fail and she was forced to leave the workforce completely. Shirley's most cherished accomplishment was being a mother to her two daughters, and grandmother to her two grandsons and four great grandchildren. Shirley was proceeded in death by her mother Juanita Norris; father Roosevelt Norris; stepmother Wydena Norris; aunt Roberta and uncle Chick; grandson Lanell Norris; sister Mary Hall; brothers-in-law Cooper Hall and Narville Daniel. Shirley leaves to mourn her death and keep her memory, her two precious daughters: Lashonda Norris and Lavinia Norris; one handsome grandson: Antonio McNeal; wonderful great grandchildren: Alina Norris Robinson, Ari'anni Fondren; Ar'mani Fondren and Brayden Profitt; three sensational sisters, Marcia Daniel, Tina Cornelius (both of Memphis TN), Valda Allen (Everald) of Harker Heights TX; two generous brothers: Sonny William Norris (Robbie), and Arthur Norris (Kathy) (both of Memphis TN.); loving Jones Cousin/Siblings: Tommie, Rosie, Margo, Edwin and Elbert; one treasured uncle, Andrew Jones and one caring Aunt, Bessie Robinson; as well as an adored host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
