Mary G. Cheers

August 23, 1946 - May 3, 2022

Mrs. Mary Geneva Cheers was born August 23, 1946, to Oscaree Butler and Henry Butler, Sr. She departed this life on Tuesday, May 3, 2022. She confessed a hope in Christ at an early age at Center Chapel Baptist Church of Memphis, Tennessee, and remained a faithful member until joining Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church. She was a graduate of the 1964 class of Capleville High School. She was a full-time mom, caterer, and business owner. Mary was a vibrant, loving, and family-oriented woman of God who cherished above all her earthly possessions the love of her children and husband. She served as a beacon of light at her church, in her community, and in all the lives she touched. As a social butterfly, Mary never met a stranger in life. Mary wore many hats; including advocating for others, fighting for change in and serving her community, being a surrogate mom to many, and using her gift of cooking as part of her ministry. Mrs. Mary G. Cheers leaves to cherish her memories her loving husband of forty-four years, James Edward Cheers; her five children by birth, Dallas Kelvin (Katrina) Palmer, Keith Marvin (Andrea) Palmer, Edward Thomas Cheers, Timothy James Cheers, and Mary Lakesha Cheers (Vannie) Williamson; her children, Sheila E. M. Conway, Sharon E. Malone, and Karen M. Pratcher; her siblings, Joyce (George) Spruille, Maggie (William) Johnson, Henry (Sharon) Butler Jr., and Marvin Butler; twelve grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, a community of children she helped raise and a host of family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Kelvin Butler and Glennie Marshall.
