Ada Oliver

Ada Lorraine Cheers Oliver was born on June 29, 1946, to the late Tommy Lee and Willie Mae Gholston Cheers in Memphis, Tennessee. On June 8, 2022, at 11:02 a.m., God saw fit to call Ada home. Ada accepted Christ at an early age. She was an active Prayer Warrior and was an active member and choir member of Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church until her health began to fail. Ada was a longtime resident of the Boxtown community in Memphis, Tennessee. It was here that she met the love of her life, the late Harry James Oliver, Jr. They were married on November 11, 1972. To their union, three children were born. Ada graduated from Geeter High School in 1965. She then went on to attend State Technical Institute before beginning her tenure at Hunter Fan Company. Upon the birth of her second child, Ada started her career as a domestic engineer until she transitioned to working for A.C. Jackson Daycare until she retired. Ada was a phenomenal seamstress, gardener and chef; family loved when she cooked her signature “Crunchy Top” poundcake and made from scratch yeast rolls. Ada loved to travel and took many trips with her family. She loved her children and could be seen at Westwood football games with the Longhorn Marching Band whenever they performed. She continued to support her children and grandchildren, traveling several times a year to attend various events. Ada was preceded in death by her siblings, Dorothy Henderson, LeRoy Cheers, Sr., Tommy Lee Cheers, Jr., and her son-in-law, Stephen Young, Sr. Ada leaves to cherish the memory of her life her three children, Aisha Oliver of Memphis, Tennessee; Kazinski Oliver, Sr. of Memphis, Tennessee, and Harie (Jessica) Oliver of Nashville, Tennessee. She also leaves seven siblings, Mattie Lou Booker, Charlesetta Whiting, James Cheers, Eugene (Ethel) Cheers, Raymond (Vera) Cheers, Sr., Maggie Cheers, and Bernice (Ossie) Nicholson; four sisters-in-law, Lena Ford, Irene Oliver, Shirley Mosley, and Paula Oliver; and a special friend, M. L. Covington. In addition, she leaves five grandchildren, Stephen Young, Jr., Kazinski Oliver, Jr., Taylor Oliver, Harry Oliver, II, and Jessie Oliver. Ada also leaves a host of nieces and nephews, and an abundance of extended family members, friends, and neighbors.
