Addie Mae Lamar

Addie Mae Harvey Lamar, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend was born on April 8, 1942, in Grenada, Mississippi, to the late Primes Harvey, Sr., and Rosie Ross Harvey. She was called to her eternal rest on August 7, 2024. As the youngest of ten siblings, Addie was cherished and often insisted that her nieces and nephews call her "cousin" instead of "auntie," feeling too youthful for the latter. Her vibrant spirit and humor were a hallmark of her personality, as she often joked about keeping her age private. Addie's faith journey began at New Prospect M.B. Church in Horn Lake, Mississippi, under the leadership of the late Rev. W.H. Mosby. She later became a devoted member of Mt. Pisgah M.B. Church, serving faithfully on the #1 Usher Board under the guidance of Rev. A.C. Jackson and currently Rev. F.J. Harris Sr. She attended Weaver Elementary and Geeter High School and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. Addie's professional life included working at Posturepedic Mattress and Pace Warehouse until their closures, followed by a notable 33-year career at the Shelby County Penal Farm, from which she retired. At time of death, she was employed as a salesclerk at 2Unique Boutique. Addie was a woman of many talents, a licensed cosmetologist with a passion for bowling, cooking, and baking. Her entrepreneurial spirit shone brightly as she explored various sales roles, including serving as a licensed Notary, sales representative for Pre-Paid Legal, Xooma and Liquid Gold. Despite her busy schedule, she remained an active and cherished Golden Girls Social Club member. Addie was preceded in death by her four brothers, Sam Harris, Leroy Harvey, Leslie Harvey, and Primes Harvey Jr., and her four sisters, Lula Mae Harvey, Essie Lee Harvey Williams, Clornie Harvey Guest, and Ethel Harvey Stokes. She leaves behind her devoted husband of 64 years, AJ Lamar Sr.; her son AJ Lamar Jr. (Jackie); her daughters Janet Lamar Booker, Cathy Lamar, Shelita Lamar, a stepson Alan McCrackin (Phenicia); six beloved grandchildren: Katrina Smith, Andrew Lamar, Brian Booker (Jennifer), A.J. Lamar III, Joshua Booker Sr. (Jasmine), and Laticie Hill. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren: Paris Smith, Kyla Smith, Joseph Smith, Jr., Thesis Booker, Janise Vanpeit, Laurin Booker, Joshua Booker Jr., and Eriyonna Malone; her sister Ruby M. Harvey Smith; brother-in-law Richard Jackson; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Addie's warmth, spirit and love will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
